Dog beach bans lifted in Cornwall this week - but some remain
There are still 12 council beaches where the dog ban runs for another month though
Cornwall’s beaches may be one of the major reasons tourists love coming here, but they’re also loved by Cornish dogs. Our four-legged friends have to be turfed off in the summer to allow humans to enjoy the sand.
However, from this week they are free to run and swim to their little hearts’ content on 35 Cornwall Council-owned beaches. There are still 12 council beaches where the dog ban runs for another month though.
Cornwall Council enforces restrictions at its beaches which are all covered by Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs). Blue Flag and Seaside Award beaches have longer restrictions due to the requirements of the award status.
There are also three protected wildlife areas in the Hayle area that are subject to year-long bans. Privately owned beaches issue their own guidance on when dogs can and cannot visit. Just remember wherever you are – pick up your dog’s poo and take it away with you.
