The announcement comes after Kate Kennally went on a leave of absence in September
Cornwall Council’s chief executive is leaving the role after 10 years with the authority.
The announcement comes after Kate Kennally went on a leave of absence in September.
Cornwall Council said interim leadership arrangements are in place. and recruitment for a new permanent Chief Executive would start "in due course."
In a statement today (13 October), the Council said it “wishes to announce that Kate Kennally has decided to leave her role as chief executive of Cornwall Council after ten years in post”.
Kennally said: “I am privileged to have served Cornwall for ten years during which time Cornwall has hosted the G7 leaders’ summit, worked with communities to respond to the Covid pandemic and recovered from significant events such as the Coverack floods and Storm Goretti.
“I am proud of what has been achieved during that time and wish Cornwall every success for the future.”
Interim deputy chief executive Andy Keeling who was appointed in September said: “The council wishes Kate well for the future.”
Ms Kennally’s departure comes a few days after her wife, Rachael Rothero, the council’s service director for people commissioning resigned from the local authority.
A member of the council’s chief officers employment committee, which has been regularly discussing Ms Kennally’s absence, warned last week that any perceived lack of transparency concerning her absence could be “reputationally damaging for the council”.
