Cornwall community centre faces closure unless urgent funding found
St Agnes Miners and Mechanics’ Institute launches £40,000 appeal to stay open
A much-loved community centre in St Agnes could be forced to close by 2026 unless urgent financial help is found.
The St Agnes Miners and Mechanics’ Institute (MMI) has been part of village life for more than 130 years, but trustees say rising costs and soaring bills – which have quadrupled in three years – are putting its future at risk.
A “Save the MMI” campaign has now been launched to raise £40,000 to keep the building open.
Donations can be made online or in person at the MMI, and locals are also being encouraged to volunteer to help keep the centre running.
