Council Tax will rise from April for people across Cornwall.

Cornwall's budget has been approved for the next financial year but it was a tight vote.

39 councillors voted for and 35 against, with three abstaining, in what has been described as a difficult budget to set.

Local authorities across the country are making tough decisions, with Cornwall Council saying funding from central government does not match its expectation.

Council tax will rise by just under five per cent, and will include a two per cent levy to be used on adult social care to meet with growing demands.

Councillor David Harris, Deputy Council Leader, said: "In the end we voted for a balanced budget, because that is what we have to deliver.

"With a balanced budget, we can provide the services we have to provide. It's finding the money for it, when you're not getting as much from Government as you expect.

"Our adult social care has gone up by over 50%, and the bill for children's services has gone up by about 44%.

"Inflation over the last five years is 25%, and it's double"
