Cornish Pirates have announced the signing of centre Harry Ascherl from the Exeter Chiefs on a permanent deal ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The 26-year-old joined the Pirates on loan in April last year (2025) and has appeared three times for the club at the end of this season.

He said: “I’ve loved my time down in Penzance already, so I’m looking forward to continuing to develop my game down here with Pirates. I’m sad to be leaving Chiefs but I’m very grateful for the last year."

Ascherl originally joined Chiefs on a trail period at the outset of the 2025/26 pre-season before earning a permanent deal in October 2025.

He's also played for south west rivals Bristol Bears.

Speaking after the announcement Joint Head Coach of the Cornish Pirates Gavin Cattle, said:

“Within his short spell with us – Harry has integrated seamlessly. He has been in and around premiership environments so he knows what it takes. He is a smart operator, physical and hungry to play. I believe his best rugby is ahead of him and we are looking forward to working with him.”

Ashcherl joins Jack Forsythe and Mat Cannon in making the permanent move to Penzance next season.
