Cordon lifted after gas leak in Launceston

Police have confirmed that a 500m cordon that was in place after a gas leak in Launceston this afternoon (December 19) has now been lifted.
A section of the A30 was closed in both directions during the incident at Pennygillam Industrial Estate with emergency crews attending including Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service who remain on scene managing the incident.
Properties within a 200m radius were evacuated and the public advised to avoid the area.
Police said in a statement at around 5pm this afternoon that the A30 had now reopened.
In a statement gas emergency service Wales and West Utilities said: ""We are aware of a gas leak in the Pennygillam industrial estate area of Launceston.
“While we do not know the source of the leak, we can confirm that it is not connected to the mains gas network. We’d like to reassure the local community that there has been no impact on the local gas supply to homes or businesses in the area.
“The emergency services remain in control of the scene.”
