A new series of community meetings will take place across the villages of Clay Country early next year to discuss opportunities from Cornwall’s £30 million Kernow Industrial Growth Fund.

The Clay Country Roadshow, launched by Noah Law, MP for St Austell and Newquay, will feature six events throughout January to help residents understand the possible impact the fund could have on skills development, job creation, and local investment. Discussions will centre on how the money can be used to support the area’s economic growth and infrastructure.

The planned events will be held at the following locations and times:

  • St Dennis: Thursday 8th January, 18:30–20:30
  • Treviscoe: Friday 9th January, 18:30–20:30
  • Treverbyn: Thursday 15th January, 18:30–20:30
  • Whitemoor: Friday 30th January, 18:30–20:30
  • Fraddon: Saturday 31st January, 10:00–12:00
  • St Stephen: Saturday 31st January, 13:30–15:30

MP Noah Law's ambition

Speaking on the initiative, Noah Law said the fund represents a significant opportunity for Cornwall’s future. Law described it as a chance to develop supply chains in Mid Cornwall while building a minerals-focused industry.

“The Kernow Industrial Growth Fund, if delivered right, could be life changing for families, bringing back those lost high-quality jobs, and helping to re-establish Cornwall as a global industrial powerhouse once again,” Law said.

“This is personal to me - if you'd have asked me 2-3 years ago what I think could make the biggest differences to Cornwall's economic fortunes, I'd probably have said a wealth fund of our own to support our most promising industries. My priority now is to make sure every pound of investment delivers tangible benefits for local communities, that residents have a real say in decisions, and that the industry’s projected growth by 2035 translates into genuine local economic impact. I encourage anyone, regardless of their political stripes, to sign up to their local event, and cannot wait to discuss in the New Year.”

The fund builds on the Government’s Clean Energy Industries Strategies and Critical Minerals Strategies published last month. It includes ambitions for domestic supply and recycling, with plans to produce at least 50,000 tonnes of lithium per year in the UK by 2035.

The roadshow aims to ensure that the region’s development as part of these strategies reflects the needs and priorities of Cornwall’s communities.
