Arrest after unexplained death of man in Truro
Police have detained a 45 year-old man
Detectives, investigating the unexplained death of a man at a public car park in Truro, have arrested a man, in connection with their inquiries.
Police were called by the ambulance service to Moorfield Car Park, on Calenick Street, at around 10.45am on Monday 17 August.
A 41 year-old man, from the Truro area, was found deceased inside the ground floor of the car park. His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
The death is currently being treated as unexplained and significant inquiries remain ongoing to establish the circumstances.
Today, a 44 year-old man, from Truro, has been arrested on suspicion of assault, grievous bodily harm, administering a noxious substance and theft. He remains in police custody.
A cordon remains in place around the closed ground floor of the car park, while forensic examinations and searches are carried out.
Officers are also reviewing CCTV footage, to establish the man’s movements prior to his death.
Detective Inspector Jon Bray said: “Our inquiries are at an early stage, as we work to establish the circumstances surrounding this man’s death. One arrest has been made in connection with our investigation and the man remains in custody.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have information or witnessed anything suspicious in the area, between the afternoon of Friday 14 August and 10.45am on Monday 17 August.
"There will be an ongoing police presence in the area, while inquiries continue and anyone with concerns is encouraged to speak with officers at the scene.
“The inside ground floor car parking area will remain closed today while detectives and specialist teams carry out their investigations. The outside parking area remains unaffected.
“We would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding around the ongoing police presence. Anyone requiring access to a vehicle within the cordoned area should speak to officers at the scene, who will assist them.”
