A charity in Wisbech has announced it is closing after more than 50 years of fundraising for local causes.

Formed in 1972, the club has donated an average of £10,000 each year to the local community, supported by volunteers collecting donations and organising events such as tombolas and games.

The decision to close comes as members face growing challenges, including illnesses and relocation, according to club president Robert Norton.

Norton expressed his gratitude to those who have contributed to the club's efforts, from residents participating in events to businesses offering support.

The club plans to sell its sleigh, generator, radio, speaker, and other equipment to raise further funds for the community.

Norton shared his personal appreciation for the club and the community, saying:

"I moved to Wisbech in 2022 to be closer to my wifes family, I joined the Lions and soon realised the friendliness in the club and the wider community.

"We are moving back to Yorkshire to be closer to my family, I am sad that I will be the last President but honoured that you felt me worthy."
