People living in Werrington are holding a protest today about plans to fence off a large area of green space.

It follows a decision by Peterborough City Council to pay legal costs for the 4Cs Academy Trust, which wants to take over land that campaigners say is bigger than the school actually needs.

More than eight hundred people have objected, and lead campaigner Nyree Ambarchian says locals want more of a say.

“We are hoping that the protest will mean that local people are let1 in on the discussions that are closed door,” said Nyree.

“At the moment, we really want to push for access so we know what's going on, and it can input on things like is there going to be AstroTurf? What will the parking implication and knock on effects be? What about lighting and noise?”

Both sides are aiming to reach an agreement by the end of April.

Campaigners say more openness could help ensure the plans work for everyone.
