A prolific shoplifter has been jailed after stealing more than £1,300 worth of goods from Co-op stores across Huntingdonshire.
Nathan Smith, 31, of no fixed address, targeted stores in Brampton, Godmanchester and St Ives 14 times between 22 May and 29 June. He also stole from B&Q in Huntingdon and Cotswold Outdoors in Cambridge.
Smith pleaded guilty to 17 counts of theft, assault with intent to resist arrest, and possession of cannabis. He was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on 2 July.
PC Laura D’urso said shoplifting affects both businesses and staff, and is often linked with other crimes including violence.
