Richard Kemp, 57, from the Huntingdon area, has been sentenced to five years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman who visited him to check on his welfare.

The incident occurred on 9th May 2023, when Kemp, who was intoxicated, verbally abused the victim before grabbing her and committing a sexual assault when she attempted to leave.

After stopping momentarily, Kemp subjected the woman to a second assault, leading her to flee to a friend's home.

Kemp later messaged the victim to apologise but sent further inappropriate messages attempting to dismiss his actions.

Five days after the incident, Kemp voluntarily reported himself to the police while drunk, admitting the assault.

Despite denying the charges, Kemp was found guilty of two counts of assault at Peterborough Crown Court in August.

Sentenced at the same court on 8th October, Kemp has also been placed on the Sex Offenders Register.

Detective Constable Katie Housham, who investigated the case, praised the victim's bravery in reporting Kemp's crimes.

"Kemp subjected the victim to a terrifying and degrading ordeal when she had simply gone to check on his welfare," DC Housham said.

The sentence provides some reassurance that Kemp is being held accountable.
