A 24-year-old from Crowland, Lincolnshire, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of rape and other violent offences.

Jacob Negus began interacting with his victim on a dating app in August 2022 and was initially sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court.

Their relationship took a dark turn as Negus exhibited controlling behaviour, urging the woman to remove male connections from her social media accounts.

After she ended their contact, Negus apologised and sent flowers, prompting the pair to continue dating sporadically.

In 2023, while at his home in Maxey, near Peterborough, Negus violently assaulted her, leading to serious injuries.

On one occasion, he strangled her until she fell unconscious, during which time he raped her.

When the woman regained consciousness, Negus continued his assault, pulling her hair and strangling her again.

Negus's actions left the woman with a burst blood vessel in her eye and bruises on her thighs, alongside verbal abuse and threats.

Ultimately, she confided in a family member and reported the abuse to police, leading to Negus’s arrest and conviction.

Detective Constable Frankie Enticknap commended the victim for her bravery in coming forward and reassured commitment to bringing offenders to justice.

“This was a sustained and deeply traumatic campaign of abuse, where Negus used control, violence and intimidation against his victim,” DC Enticknap said.
