Police investigate spate of burglaries in South Cambridgeshire

Post Offices have been targeted since Thursday 30 April

Cambridgeshire Police are appealing for information following a series of burglaries and an attempted break-in at post offices across South Cambridgeshire over the weekend.

Cash was taken from Linton Post Office, in High Street, at around 3.50am on Friday 1 May.

Thieves also took cash from Burwell Post Office, in The Causeway, on Saturday 2 May at about 3.25am and tobacco was taken from Barton Post Office, in Comberton Road, on Sunday (3 May) at about 5.45am.

There was an attempted break-in at Stow-cum-Quy Post Office, in Albert Road, on Thursday (30 April) at about 3.05am

Officers are carrying out enquiries including reviewing CCTV, forensic opportunities and increased patrols.

They would like to hear from anyone who may have seen any suspicious behaviour around the stores leading up to the incidents and any vehicles driving or parked nearby at unusual times

Detective Sergeant Jonathan Lockwood, from the Southern Acquisitive Crime Team, said: “We recognise how upsetting and disruptive these incidents are for the post office owners, staff and the wider community who rely on these vital local services. We want to reassure people that we are taking these offences seriously and are actively working to identify those responsible.

“We’re asking anyone who noticed anything unusual over the bank holiday weekend to please get in touch. Information from the public can be crucial in helping us progress our enquiries.”
