Peterborough parents asked about 'cluster' to improve SEND help
The city council want parents and carers to shape future SEND decisions
Parents and carers across Peterborough are being asked how support for special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in the city should look in future.
The city council said that any feedback provided would help towards designing a model that was inclusive and meaningful.
It also wants to team up with local schools and services to provide earlier help for children.
“We are developing a new cluster-based approach, where groups of local schools and services work together to provide earlier, more joined-up support for children and young people," the survey reads.
“Each cluster will have access to dedicated specialist advice and support through a multi-disciplinary team called “Experts at Hand” including educational psychologists, specialist teachers and therapists, helping children get the right support more quickly and locally.”
The survey - which runs up to September 25 - includes 16 questions asking about areas such as how parents and carers should be represented within local SEND clusters, and more opportunities to try and improve SEND services.
The council wants parents and carers to be recognised as ‘experts by experience’, which they could use to help:
- Share family experiences;
- Suggest improvements;
- Highlight what is working well;
- Identify challenges and barriers;
- Help shape local decisions;
- Influence improvements to SEND services.
