Sue Ryder's Christmas 'treecycling' collection service is coming to Peterborough.

Donate to Fund Local Care

Sue Ryder are asking for an optional donation when people book their collections.

The money raised helps to fund expert care for people dealing with serious illness and bereavement in the local area, including at Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice.

Last year, donations from treecycling collections helped fund more than 6,000 hours of specialist care across the UK.

The charity has said support could help fund online bereavement support, expert nursing care, home visits for patients, or vital education and campaigning work.

“It’s an eco-friendly initiative with rural Christmas trees; they can then be turned into compost or wood chippings, and we would use them in local parks, woodlands or to generate green energy," Leonie Hatcher, from Sue Ryder, said.

"Last year, our tree cycling campaign locally raised over £20,000.

"This year, we are aiming for over £23,000, and that will go so far in supporting patients and families."

The service will run from Thursday, January 8 to Friday, January 16, 2026.

"It really helps us to continue to provide that expert, compassionate palliative care across all of Sue Ryder; it also keeps the trees out of landfill," Leonie added.

"By choosing to recycle your real Christmas tree, your Christmas tree could become the gift of expert care, advice, and compassion for those living with serious illness, death and grief.”

How it works

Volunteers from Sue Ryder will collect real Christmas tree from people's homes, gardens or driveways.

Once collected, the trees are recycled as woodchips to be used for biomass fuel or as mulch in gardens and landscaping projects.

Collections are available for addresses in PE1, PE2, PE3, PE4, PE5, PE6, PE7, PE8 and PE9; spaces are limited and registration closes on January 4.
