Daniel Howard's escalating abuse has ended in a significant prison term
A man who threatened his partner with death and strangled her during a terrifying outburst has been sentenced to four years and four months in prison.
Daniel Howard, 38, from Murrow, Wisbech, verbally abused his partner on 20th April 2026, escalating to threats of violence against her and others in the household.
The next morning, Howard intensified the abuse by strangling her and declaring, "Today is the day you are going to die."
In a state of fear, the victim attempted to escape, only for Howard to drag her back by the hair and assault her with blows to the face, head, and stomach.
He further damaged property, smashing a laptop and TV remote, before the victim managed to flee to a nearby park and call for help.
Upon police arrival, the victim expressed her need to end the ongoing abuse, which she described as a pattern of escalation over the years.
Howard admitted to the police, "I lost my temper, I'm going to admit to everything. I put my hands on her."
At Cambridge Crown Court on 21st July, Howard pleaded guilty to intentional strangulation, two counts of making threats to kill, assault by beating, and criminal damage.
The court also passed a ten-year restraining order against Howard while additional charges of controlling behaviour and a second count of strangulation were left on file.
Detective Constable Jon Coupland acknowledged the gravity of the offences and the victim's courage in reporting the abuse.
“Strangulation is an extremely dangerous offence and one that can have devastating consequences," Coupland noted.
He urged other victims of domestic abuse to report their experiences, reassuring them of the police's dedication to supporting and protecting those in need.
