Man jailed for violent attacks and drug dealing in Meldreth and Melbourn
Offences included driving at a man and threatening him with a gun
A “ruthless and dangerous” drug dealer from Cambridgeshire who drove at a man he claimed owed him money has been jailed.
Callum Gray, 21, was driving a white Vauxhall Insignia in High Street, Meldreth, near Royston, at about 4.30pm on 21 January when he began aggressively following the victim’s car.
The victim accelerated away into Bell Close, but Gray rammed him from behind, causing the car to spin.
The victim drove away again but Gray pulled alongside him and pointed what appeared to be a handgun at him.
He also made a threatening phone call and sent abusive messages to the victim that evening.
Gray was arrested on 18 February at a property in Hyacinth Drive, Melbourn, where officers found cocaine, crack cocaine, ketamine, cannabis, and MDMA.
He was charged with these offences, together with three further assaults in Melbourn.
In the first, the victim, an associate, was walking in High Street on 21 December when Gray got out of a car and punched him in the face numerous times.
The second, on the same victim, took place in New Road on 21 January when Gray pulled up alongside him before punching him in the head, stamping on his arms and ribs and kicking him in the face.
A third victim was assaulted in High Street, Melbourn, on 10 December. Gray called him over, dragged him to the ground and began kicking and punching him while shouting the victim owed him money.
On Friday (31 July), at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court acting as a crown court, Gray, of no fixed address, was jailed for four years, having pleaded guilty to two counts of assault by beating and one count each of dangerous driving, possession with intent to supply cocaine, crack cocaine, MDMA, ketamine and cannabis.
He was also banned from driving for three years.
Sentencing, Judge Simon Farrell described Gray as “a ruthless and dangerous individual.”
DC Edward McAuley, who investigated, said: “Gray terrorised his victims in the Melbourn and Meldreth areas as well as dealing class A drugs. The judge clearly recognised the harm he was causing to society and that was reflected in the sentence.”
