Man jailed for summer spree of thefts across Peterborough

A thief who committed a summer crime spree across Peterborough has been jailed.
David Harkins, 44, was arrested on the 4th of August on suspicion of thefts from Dunelm, in Boulevard Retail Park, on the 24th of July, and Home Bargains, in Bourges Boulevard, on the 31st of July.
He was charged with the two thefts and bailed to appear at court on the 4th of September.
However, Harkins, of Lincoln Road, Millfield, Peterborough, failed to attend his court hearing as he was in custody for a further four thefts.
Police had arrested him for three thefts from Home Bargains between the 1st of August and 1st of September, as well as the theft of an air fryer from Asda Living, in Brotherhood Retail Park, on the 10th of August.
Last Saturday (5th of September), Harkins admitted the offences at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court and was sentenced to 34 weeks in prison. In addition, the courts also ordered him to pay £456.27 in compensation.
PC Rebecca Risebrow, who investigated, said: “Harkins has a blatant disregard for the law, as shown by his continued offending despite waiting to appear in court."
