A man has been jailed after he threatened to stab a member of the public with a kitchen knife.
On 8 September 2024, officers were called to Market Square, in Cambridge, after receiving a report of a man with a knife.
James Cripps, 45, waved a kitchen knife around before threatening to stab a member of the public with it.
A Cambridge City Council worker who saw Cripps with the knife managed to talk to him, convincing him to hand the knife over until police arrived.
Officers arrested Cripps shortly afterwards, and he was taken to Parkside Police Station.
On Wednesday (26 August) at Cambridge Crown Court, Cripps, of no fixed abode, was jailed for seven months after he pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon, possession of a knife, and using threatening behaviour with intent to cause fear / violence.
PC Oliver Taylor, who investigated, said: “Cripps is a dangerous man who uses knives to intimidate and threaten innocent members of the public.
“He shows no regard for the law so I’m pleased he’s now behind bars.”
