A man who kicked, spat at and tried to bite staff, at a bar in Cambridge, has been jailed.

Joshua Garner, 30, was drinking at the venue in St Andrew’s Street in October 2023, when staff noticed him behaving aggressively and walking around with his fists clenched.

One approached Garner and tried to calm him down, but he became more aggressive, pushing them in the chest.

The team decided to evict Garner, for the safety of other customers, but as they did so, he began shouting, swearing, and spitting. They managed to restrain him on the floor, but he continued to shout and kick and even attempted to bite a member of staff’s leg.

Officers arrived and arrested Garner, as his aggressive behaviour continued.

Garner, of no fixed abode, later pleaded guilty to assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and assault an emergency worker. He was sentenced to two years and one month in prison at Peterborough Crown Court on Tuesday (9 September).

PC Olivia Miles, who investigated, said: “Garner’s aggressive and violent behaviour was absolutely appalling, completely uncalled for and it’s lucky no-one was more seriously hurt.”
