A man, who broke a police officer’s nose and racially abused another, has been jailed.
Terry O'Sullivan, 38, was arrested after officers were called to reports of a disturbance at a property in Welland, Peterborough, at around 2am on 24 June.
O'Sullivan headbutted the arresting officer, before making racist comments towards another.
While in custody, O'Sullivan continued to hurl racist abuse at the second officer for more than 15 minutes.
The officer who was headbutted went to hospital, where it was confirmed his nose was broken.
O'Sullivan, of Eastleigh Road, Eastfield, Peterborough, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm and racially aggravated harassment.
On Tuesday (6 January) at Huntingdon Magistrates' Court he was jailed for 27 weeks.
PC Amy Sibson said: “O'Sullivan’s behaviour during this incident was disgraceful.
“The assault was completely unprovoked. The officer acted professionally and politely, but O'Sullivan responded by attacking him.
“The prolonged racist abuse was disgusting and completely unacceptable.
“We won’t tolerate attacks on our officers or abuse such as this. I’m pleased O'Sullivan has now appeared in court and been jailed for his actions.”
