A man seen with a machete in Peterborough on Boxing Day is starting a year in jail.

30 year old Ajmel Saqikhel, who has no known address, was seen with the machete in Northfield Road, New England, at about 6pm on the 26th of December.

Officers arrived, arrested Saqikhel and found the machete nearby.

Saqikhel, of no known address, admitted possession of a bladed article in a public place.

He was jailed for a year last Monday at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court.

PC Mia Wenham said: “This sentence demonstrates how seriously the courts take knife crime."

“We’re working hard to combat the issue and I’d like to thank the member of the public who reported Saqikhel’s actions.”
