A former Peterborough police officer has been dismissed after a misconduct hearing found he shared inappropriate messages in a WhatsApp group.

Kyle Carter-Lawrence, who used to serve as a PC, was accused of sending these messages from June 2016 to March 2024.

His case was heard on 26th March at Lysander House, Bedfordshire, where it was concluded that Carter-Lawrence breached several professional standards.

These included respect, equality, discreditable conduct, and confidentiality among others.

The hearing determined that if Carter-Lawrence were still working as an officer, he would have been dismissed.

Chief Constable Simon Megicks, who led the hearing, criticised the ex-officer's behaviour, saying it fell far short of what is expected from police:

"The behaviour uncovered in this case fell far below the standards we expect from anyone serving within Cambridgeshire Constabulary.

"The misogynistic, discriminatory and wholly inappropriate messages, alongside references to drug use and failure to challenge unacceptable conduct, are completely incompatible with the responsibilities of a police officer.

“The public rightly expect officers to act with integrity, uphold the law, and challenge wrongdoing, not participate in it. This former officer’s actions undermined trust, damaged confidence and has no place in policing.”
