A former Cambridgeshire Police inspector has been dismissed following a misconduct hearing.
Inspector James Thorne, who was based at Parkside Police Station, was found to have breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour.
A hearing at Lysander House concluded that Thorne would have been dismissed if he was still a serving officer.
Chief Constable Simon Megicks said: “Inspector Thorne went down an entirely unacceptable path. He abused his position as a police officer for a sexual purpose, engaging with a vulnerable victim of crime with a clear breach of national and force guidance and policy.
“As a police officer, with all his knowledge and training and understanding, the risk of harm must have been foreseeable to him.
“Through his actions, he undermined public trust and confidence in police and failed to fulfil his duties and responsibilities. His behaviour also lets down the overwhelming majority of our officers and staff, who work diligently, professionally and with integrity every day to keep the public of Cambridgeshire safe and provide an exceptional service to our communities.”
Thorne will be added to the College of Policing barred list to prevent him from working in policing in the future.
