The East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) says its 'really pleased' that their plans to relocate and build a new air base in Cambridgeshire have been approved.

The application was approved by South Cambridgeshire District Council's planning committee, external on Wednesday (8 April).

The base is set to be built on Balsham Road, in Fulbourn. The move from Cambridge Airport is necessary due to its impending closure,

The charity operates 24 hours a day, covering Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk, with its other base in Norwich.

While gaining planning permission is a crucial milestone, EAAA urgently needs to raise funds for the construction of the new base, which is situated 2km southeast of Fulbourn village and covers approximately 10.35 acres.

The plans for the facility include helipads, a hangar, and a garage area for critical care cars.

There will also be crew facilities, a medical store, a training and educational area, overnight accommodation and resting facilities for night‑shift and visiting crew, along with office space for ground staff.
