Dead puppy found in shoebox near children's play area in Cambridge
The RSPCA believe the puppy was around eight weeks old
The RSPCA have launched an investigation after a dead puppy was found in shoebox in a bin next to a children's play area in Cambridge.
It's understood the body was found by a some children area on Bateson Road on Sunday( April 27) at around 5pm.
The puppy was found with a puppy pad inside the shoebox and it was suggested there had also been a tub of food inside as well. It's not known whether the puppy was live or dead when it was abandoned.
A vet has carried out an examination and while a cause of death could not be established, it's estimated the puppy was around eight weeks old and possibly a spaniel-type breed.
The puppy was male and black and tan in colour. He was found inside a size 10 vans shoe box.
RSPCA Animal Rescue Officer Naomi Sadoff is appealing for information from the public and urges anyone who may have seen anything around the area to contact her via their inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018 quoting incident 01503546.
She said: “This would have been an incredibly distressing discovery for the children who found this puppy.
“There were no injuries or obvious cause of death but the circumstances in which the pup was found is suspicious.
“We’re urging anyone who may have seen something suspicious to please get in touch with us as we’re keen to find out what happened to this puppy. We are also concerned for the well-being of the mother of these pups too and are keen to find her.”
