A man who stole copper pipes from an industrial unit at a Subway takeaway and repeatedly targeted a petrol station has been ordered to pay more than £6000.

Manuel Sa De Sousa, 40, took the piping from the Subway in Bretton, Peterborough, just before midnight on 12th September.

The theft caused significant damage, requiring costly repairs and led to lost stock from failed freezers.

Sa De Sousa, of no fixed address, later went on a shoplifting spree at the BP filling station in Bretton. He committed 13 thefts between 24th November and 9th January.

At Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 19th January, Sa De Sousa was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison.

He was also ordered to pay £6456 in compensation after admitting to 14 theft offences and one count of criminal damage.

PC Rebecca Risebrow, from the northern spree offender team, said: “I would like to thank businesses for their ongoing help by reporting these incidents to us so we can identify and arrest those involved.”
