A mum who was caught drug-driving with her baby in the car has been sentenced.

Police caught up with Sophie Haddock, in Hatherdene Close, Cambridge, on the evening of 3rd January, following concerned calls from members of the public around her manner of driving.

The 34-year-old admitted being the driver of a blue Nissan Qashqai with her 1-year-old child in the back and provided a positive drug swipe for cocaine.

Checks also revealed Haddock was disqualified from driving until April and police discovered a bag of ketamine in the baby’s changing bag.

Haddock gave an evidential blood sample, which later showed no less than 691 micrograms of benzoylecgonine present in a litre of blood (ug/L).

Benzoylecgonine is the main metabolite of cocaine, which is formed in the body after cocaine consumption. The legal limit is 50 ug/L.

She also had ketamine in her blood sample.

At Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Friday (23 May), Haddock, of Bolts Hill, Castle Camps, was disqualified from driving for three years and four months after previously pleading guilty to possession of ketamine, three counts of drug driving and driving whilst disqualified. She was also handed a 12 week prison sentence, suspended for one year.

PC Susannah Redmayne, who investigated, said: “Driving under the influence of drink or drugs is extremely dangerous and can affect your driving in numerous ways.

“It was highly irresponsible of Haddock to be driving with drugs in her system, let alone with a baby in the car.”
