Man jailed after £1,000 theft spree at Co-op stores
A shoplifter who targeted multiple Co-op branches across Cambridgeshire has been jailed for six months.
Josh Beeston, 27, carried out a string of thefts between 8 June and 26 June, stealing goods worth over £1,000 from Co-op stores in Werrington, Whittlesey, Hempstead, and Yaxley.
Items taken included coffee, alcohol, and laundry products, with a total value of just over £1,047.
He was arrested by police on on London Road, Hampton, Peterborough, after allegedly stealing from the Hampton Co-op earlier that day.
Beeston admitted 12 offences at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 3 July, where he was sentenced to six months in prison.
PC Rebecca Risebrow, who led the investigation, said:
“Retail crime can have a significant impact on the businesses targeted, both financially and the effect it has on staff.
I encourage businesses to continue reporting any incidents to us as we can apply for court orders to tackle prolific offenders.”
