Two drink drivers banned after fleeing crash scenes in Cambridgeshire
Drivers aged 19 and 75 disqualified for drink driving offences
Two drivers have been banned from the roads after crashing their vehicles and fleeing the scenes in separate drink driving incidents in Cambridgeshire.
Haygen Norman, 19, from Fenstanton, collided with a bollard and then reversed into a lorry on Kings Parade, Cambridge at around 6am on 24th August 2025.
He left his car and walked away from the crash before being found by officers on Harvey Goodwin Avenue, Cambridge, where he failed a breath test and was arrested.
In a separate incident on 23rd October 2025, Marion Read, 75, swerved across lanes in Comberton Road, Toft, before hitting another car and driving off.
Police later traced Read to her home in Mill Lane, Toft, where they found her damaged car parked on the driveway. She was arrested after officers confirmed she was over the legal alcohol limit.
Both drivers appeared at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on 11th December 2025. Norman admitted drink driving and driving without insurance or a licence.
He received an 18-month driving ban and was fined £276. Meanwhile, Read admitted drink driving and was handed a 16-month driving ban alongside a £230 fine.
PC Tim Everett, who investigated the cases, stressed the risk of drink driving.
“If you get behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol, you are putting yourself and other road users at risk and there will be consequences,” PC Everett said.
Police remain committed to tackling drink driving incidents to improve road safety across the region.
