Man jailed for robbing Cambridge shop at knifepoint
36-year-old stole £110 from Morrisons Daily in Cherry Hinton
A Cambridge man who robbed a shop at knifepoint has been sentenced to four years and 10 months in prison.
Shane Colquitt, 36, entered Morrisons Daily on High Street, Cherry Hinton, just after 7am on 3rd December, armed with a knife.
He approached the counter, brandished the weapon, and threatened the shop worker, saying: “Give me the money or I will stab you.”
Colquitt then went behind the counter and continued to threaten the woman until she opened the till. He fled on a bicycle with £110.05.
Detectives identified him using CCTV footage and arrested him the following day. Officers also seized the knife and clothing worn during the robbery.
Colquitt, of Fison Road in Cambridge, pleaded guilty to robbery and was sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court on 27th January.
Detective Constable Timothy Taylor, who led the investigation, said: “Colquitt is a prolific offender who caused significant distress and alarm to the shop worker confronted by him that morning.
“It is not lost on us the emotional effect having a knife pointed at you and we’ve worked hard to bring Colquitt to justice.”
