AstraZeneca has unveiled plans to expand Cambridge Biomedical Campus with a new office and conference centre development in Francis Crick Avenue.

The proposed six-storey building will provide office space for up to 736 members of staff, alongside a 200-person conference centre, a 450-seat auditorium, and a 110-cover restaurant.

Planning documents submitted to Cambridge City Council outline how the project is part of AstraZeneca’s long-term vision to bring together its Cambridge-based teams at one location.

AstraZeneca said the new facility would boost collaboration both within the company and with campus partners, while meeting the increasing demand for large event spaces.

The planning application stated: “AstraZeneca’s long-term plan has been to bring together their Cambridge-based colleagues on the CBC, integrating their scientific, development and commercial operations teams in one location.

“At the start of 2025, they took a major step forward with this and started construction on a new office building on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, the Rosalind Franklin Building.

“AstraZeneca is now pleased to submit a planning application for a new conference centre and office building that would complete the transition of their employees to the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

“The proposed facility would enhance collaboration, both internally and with their campus partners, and meet growing demand for larger event spaces.”

The biopharmaceutical company added that the development would not only serve its own operations but also contribute positively to the campus and Cambridge’s scientific and architectural character.

Cambridge City Council will now consider the application and decide whether the plans can move forward.
