Two women have died in a head-on crash on the A10 between Littleport and Ely.

The accident occurred at approximately 6.40pm on 12th February, involving an HGV fuel tanker and an Audi on the single carriageway road parallel to Chettisham.

The impact forced the HGV off the road and into a nearby field, while the Audi was pushed around 100 meters further down the road.

The Audi's driver, aged 25, and the front seat passenger, aged 71, both from Littleport, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The 40-year-old HGV driver from Basildon was unharmed after being assessed by paramedics.

He has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and released on bail until 10th May, pending further investigations.

The A10 section between Ely and Littleport is expected to remain closed for the day as investigations continue.

Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the collision or the vehicles leading up to the crash to come forward.
