An 11-year-old girl has been seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on the A14 in Cambridgeshire.

Emergency services were called to the eastbound carriageway at Ellington on Sunday, around 5:45pm.

A white Kia Sportage and black Volkswagen Passat CC collided, after it's believed a lorry tyre became detached.

The driver of the Sportage, a 35-year-old man from the Cambridge area, and his 11-year-old passenger, were both taken to Addenbrookes' Hospital with serious injuries.

The Passat driver, a 52-year-old man from Exeter, Devon, was taken to Hinchingbrooke Hospital with minor injuries.

Cambridgeshire Police are appealing for witnesses and information to the crash, and are particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw the tyre detaching form the lorry.
