Thermae Bath Spa is celebrating 20 years of welcoming millions of visitors, playing an integral part in Bath’s transformation into a top UK tourist hotspot.
Since opening in August 2006, the spa has served over five million guests, offering Britain’s exclusive thermal waters, rich in minerals.
Architected by Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners, the spa rejuvenated Bath’s ancient bathing tradition, spanning 2,000 years.
With its signature rooftop pool and panoramic views, Thermae Bath Spa has become synonymous with Bath and has significantly contributed to the local economy.
Visitor loyalty plays a key role, with 88% of guests intending to return and 58% identifying the spa as the primary motive for their trip, according to independent research from The South West Research Company.
The spa draws international attention, with 29% of visitors from overseas, enhancing local business for hotels, cafes, and shops throughout the year.
The revitalization of Bath's thermal waters has elevated the city’s status internationally, reinforcing its position among the world's great spa cities with dual UNESCO World Heritage accolades.
Kevin Guy, Leader of Bath & North East Somerset Council, highlighted the spa’s role in bringing millions to the city: “Thermae Bath Spa is now firmly established as a major visitor attraction.”
Kathryn Davis, CEO of Visit West, emphasized the spa's importance in preserving Bath's wellness heritage while boosting its competitive edge.
Andrew Jordan, Executive Vice President of YTL Hotels & Properties, celebrated the spa's contributions to Bath’s economic and international reputation: “We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved.”
To mark the anniversary, Thermae Bath Spa hosted a special celebration this week (Wednesday 16th September), which brought together many of the people whose vision, determination and commitment helped create one of Bath's greatest modern success stories.
