Police in Bristol have launched a murder investigation after the death of a man who was found critically injured in Stapleton Road last night.

The man, who was in his forties, tragically died in hospital this morning.

A group of seven men, aged between 18 and 29, were arrested by police last night after being pursued on foot in nearby Trinity Walk and George Jones Park. They were initially detained on suspicion of possession of bladed weapons but have since been re-arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police investigation underway

Police were called to Stapleton Road at approximately 10.45pm last night, where they encountered a group believed to be armed with knives. Shortly after, at 10.55pm, the man was found seriously injured near the junction with Trinity Road.

He was rushed to hospital for treatment, but his injuries were described as unsurvivable. A forensic post-mortem and formal identification process are set to follow.

Appeal for information

Superintendent Deepak Kenth said: “The man’s next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this devastating time.

"They will be supported by specially-trained family liaison officers and kept up to date with developments in our investigation.

"This murder enquiry is in its early stages, and we will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to identify the person, or persons, responsible."

Police have issued reassurance that extra officers will remain in the area over the coming days to provide support.
