Police officer charged with dangerous driving
A member of the public suffered serious injuries in the Bristol incident.
An Avon and Somerset Police officer, driving an unmarked police vehicle, has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
It relates to an incident on the A4 Portway in Bristol in September 2023.
PC Daniel Fortune, who is 41, is due at Cheltenham Magistrates Court on February 27th.
The Independent Office for Police Misconduct opened an investigation after an unmarked police car was involved in a crash whilst driving to an incident.
The unmarked car passed through a red light and was in collision with car being driven by a member of the public.
The driver of the other car sustained serious injuries.
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police, said: "The woman driver sustained serious injuries and the passenger in the Volvo was also injured.
"At the end of our investigation in May 2024, we referred our report to the Crown Prosecution Service, who subsequently decided to bring the charge last month."
