Plimsoll Bridge on Brunel Way in Bristol will be closed overnight later this month to allow for essential repairs and maintenance.

The closure will last from 8pm to 6am on Tuesday 10th March to allow the bridge, which crosses Cumberland Basin, to be swung open for necessary work on its bearings and drains.

All vehicles will need to follow marked diversions during this period.

The southbound diversion will route traffic via Hotwell Road, Merchants Road, McAdam Way, and back onto Brunel Way.

For those heading north, the diversion will take drivers via Brunel Lock Road, Merchants Road, Cumberland Basin Road, and onto either the Portway or Faraday Road.

Motorists planning to travel along Brunel Way during these times are advised to expect delays and consider alternative routes.

Councillor Ed Plowden, Chair of the Transport & Connectivity Committee, highlighted the importance of the bridge in connecting south Bristol, Bristol Airport, and Ashton Gate Stadium.

“We’ve planned in the closure overnight so it will have as little impact as possible, while avoiding big events at the stadium. However, we recommend leaving more time for your journeys or finding alternative routes while the bridge is closed,” Plowden said.

Plowden expressed gratitude towards the community for their understanding as efforts to maintain the bridge aim to enhance its resilience and minimize future closures.
