A pedestrian in his seventies has died after being hit by a car in north Bristol.

The incident occurred yesterday, just before 4.30pm, on North Street, Downend, and involved a blue Citroen DS3.

Despite the efforts of emergency services, the man passed away at the scene.

His family has been informed, although his identity has not been formally confirmed yet.

Police are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage that might assist in the investigation.

The road was closed for several hours to allow for examination and investigation, reopening at 12.30am this morning.

Officers have spoken to the driver, but no arrests have been made.

The investigation is continuing.
