A 60-year-old man from Bristol has been sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in prison for committing sexual offences against a child and a teenager.

Thomas Brewer, from Whitefield Avenue, Speedwell, was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court after being found guilty by a jury in January.

Brewer faced four counts of engaging in non-penetrative activity with a child, two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and two counts of sexual assault against a female.

His offences include abusing his position of trust and repeatedly assaulting his victims, with the youngest victim targeted over a six-month period and the oldest assaulted at a party.

Brewer is also subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

The impact on the victims

Statements from Brewer's victims were read in court.

His first victim, who was under 16 at the time, expressed the impact of his actions, stating: “I hate Tom for what he did to me and the ongoing impact of it."

Brewer’s second victim, under 18 during the offences, said: “You show no remorse for your actions and it’s sickening."

Police reaction

DC Eleanor Gaskarth described Brewer's manipulative actions, stating: “Brewer took advantage of an imbalance of power to coerce and manipulate his victims.”

Gaskarth commended the victims for their courage, adding that their bravery was crucial in bringing Brewer to justice.

She emphasized that acts of violence against women and girls will never be tolerated.
