Several homes in Worle near Weston-super-Mare have been evacuated after police found some "suspicious substances" and items inside a property.

Officers from Avon and Somerset Police arrested a 70-year-old man on suspicion of fraud by false representation in Becket Road this afternoon (30 September).

North Somerset Council are asking residents affected to either seek shelter with family and friends or attend Castle Batch Children’s Centre where a reception centre has been set up.

A spokesperson for the authority said in a statement: "If you need additional support such as access to medication or pets remain at home etc, please go to Castle Batch Children’s Centre where advice will be available."
