Multiple roads in Worle, including Becket Road, Wesley Drive, Courtenay Walk, Becket Drive, Christian Close, The Larches, Cabot Way, and Wynter Close have been affected by restricted access due to the cordon.
North Somerset Council provided updates on the situation, confirming last night that the cordon would remain in place overnight.
Residents unable to access their homes and without alternative accommodation are encouraged to visit The Campus at Highlands Lane, where a rest centre has been established to offer shelter.
Additionally, Castle Batch Children’s Centre is offering support for those who need assistance with accessing medication or require care for pets left at home.
Authorities have classified this as an isolated incident, indicating there is no wider threat to the community.
North Somerset Council say they are closely working alongside police and other emergency services, whilst residents are urged to maintain vigilance and to cooperate fully with authorities as investigations continue.
Police said arrangements were being made by the council and NHS to support people in need of additional medical attention, and in an update last night (30/09), said: "We recognise the delay there has been in-between updates and we have endeavoured to provide any information as it has become available to us.
"We have now had confirmation from the EOD that the 100m cordon must remain in place overnight while an in-depth search is carried out of the property.
"We understand there are several residents with concerns for their pets left at home within the cordon. We appreciate the importance of this but our primary focus is public safety.
"The rest centre has now been relocated to The Campus in Weston-super-Mare and arrangements are being made by NHS and council colleagues to support those who require additional medical attention.
"We do believe this to be an isolated incident and searches are continuing.
"A 70-year-old man remains in police custody.
"We will endeavour to provide a further update tomorrow morning."
