Holidaymakers urged to conserve water during South West visit
As demand surges in dry summer, visitors are reminded to use water wisely

Bristol Water is calling on holidaymakers visiting the South West this summer to play their part in conserving water, as the region faces ongoing dry weather, low rainfall, and increased demand.
While customers strive to use water efficiently throughout the year, visitors are now urged to follow suit as they enjoy the area's attractions.
Dani Twelvetree, Director of Customer Communications and Engagement at Bristol Water, highlighted the importance of shared responsibility amid less predictable weather patterns due to climate change.
She said: "We know people come to the South West to enjoy our incredible countryside and communities, and we want everyone to have a fantastic stay. But with that enjoyment comes a shared responsibility."
"Climate change is making our weather less predictable. We've already seen five heatwaves this year, and this increases demand for water."
"It's really important we make sure there's a reliable supply of drinking water for everyone in the region throughout the year."
To facilitate this, Bristol Water has launched the 'Thank you for using less' water campaign, offering holidaymakers simple tips to make every drop count during their stay.
Water-saving messages will be visible at key locations, urging visitors to adopt simple measures to reduce unnecessary water usage.
Tips for conserving water include brushing dry sand off with a towel rather than rinsing feet under a tap, reusing swimwear after a quick rinse, reporting leaks to accommodation providers, reusing towels and requesting less frequent bedding changes.
Additional advice encourages storing tap water in the fridge rather than running the tap, taking four-minute showers, and turning off taps while brushing teeth.
These changes aim to protect local water resources, ensuring a thriving environment for residents, businesses, and future visitors.
