A primary school in Hanham has become one of the first schools in the country to receive new funding for Free Breakfast Club.

Dan Norris- Mayor of the West of England and MP for North East Somerset and Hanham- visited Christ Church Primary School on Friday (28th February) to speak to children and staff about the free breakfast club which is being set up to run from April.

The government has chosen the school as one of the first to offer free, daily breakfast clubs as part of a landmark scheme that will ensure children are school-ready and parents are better off.

Dan Norris said: ā€œWe know breakfast is the most important meal of the day!

"It’s even better when it’s part of a free breakfast club setting students up for a day of learning and helping parents save some money.

"Thanks to the children from the Pupil Leadership Team for showing me around the school. I look forward to visiting again when the new Breakfast Club is up and running.ā€

Headteacher, Neil McKellar-Turner said: ā€œWe were delighted to welcome Dan Norris to Christ Church Hanham today.

"Our Pupil Leadership Team enjoyed telling him about our flourishing church school and the exciting opportunities that they have each and every day.

"Being part of the first wave of schools to pilot the funded Breakfast Club model was really appealing to us as our vision of Nurture-Grow-Flourish is built upon ensuing that every member of our school community is enabled to thrive within school.

"Having a guaranteed breakfast and a calm start to the day helps children to be ready for learning as well as supporting our families with cost and childcare.

"We look forward to contributing to the future shape of the free Breakfast Club programme over the coming terms and enabling many more children to receive a positive start to the school day.ā€
