A German Shepherd that bit three adults in Staple Hill has been seized by police officers.

The incident happened yesterday (27th January) at around 8.35am in Clarence Road, South Gloucestershire.

The dog, described as a large German Shepherd, was safely secured in a garden before being taken by police.

The three members of the public who were bitten suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

An investigation is now underway into the offence of a dog being dangerously out of control.

The owner of the animal has handed over ownership and is assisting police with inquiries.

Although German Shepherds are not classified as banned breeds under the Dangerous Dogs Act, officers are exploring whether charges are applicable.

Neighbourhood Inspector Barny Mabbett said incidents like this are rare and stressed the importance of secure measures for dogs.

“Incidents like this are rare, and, fortunately, on this occasion the members of the public involved sustained only minor injuries.

“This serves as an important reminder for dog owners to ensure their pets are properly secured within their premises and to consider the use of muzzles if there are any concerns about how a dog may react around other animals or members of the public,” he said.

Anyone bitten who has not yet come forward, or others with relevant information or footage, are asked to call 101 quoting reference number 5226024038 or use the police’s online appeals form.
