Fire still burns at recycling centre in Avonmouth
Crews had declared a serious incident when it broke out
A huge fire is still burning at a recycling centre in Avonmouth this morning.
A major incident was declared by the emergency services.
In an update, Avon Fire and Rescue told us: "At 01:32 on 15 July, Avon Fire & Rescue Service was called to a fire at a recycling centre in the Kings Weston Lane area of Avonmouth, Bristol.
"Crews from Avonmouth, Patchway, Southmead, Nailsea, Temple, Pill, Portishead, Kingswood, Chew Magna, Clevedon, Bedminster, Yate, Thornbury and Weston-super-Mare attended the incident, supported by specialist resources including Turntable Ladders and High-Volume Pumps.
"A major incident has been declared. All personnel at the site were safely evacuated and there are currently no reported casualties. Avon and Somerset Police are also in attendance and are supporting with road closures.
"Kings Weston Lane is closed between the A403 St Andrews Road and Long Cross, and members of the public are asked to avoid the area while emergency services continue their response.
"Residents and businesses nearby should stay indoors and keep windows and doors closed where possible due to smoke in the air.
"The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
"Further updates will be issued as more information becomes available."
