Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was discovered inside a flat in the St Judes area of Bristol on 3rd January.

The man, believed to be in his forties, was found in Wade Street at 2.17pm during enquiries linked to a missing person investigation.

While formal identification has yet to be completed, his family has been informed and is being supported by family liaison officers.

A post-mortem examination conducted on Sunday failed to determine the cause of death, and additional tests are now being carried out.

Two men, aged 43 and 61, were arrested the same day but have since been released on police bail while investigations continue.

Neighbourhood Inspector John Shaddick said: "Our thoughts are with the man's family at this very difficult time. We are making sure they are supported and will continue to keep them updated.

"While our investigation is still at an early stage we do believe him to be the person officers were trying to locate as part of the missing person investigation."

The man was reported missing to the police on Monday 29th December after he did not return to his flat on Saturday 27th December. His body was discovered in another flat following a review of CCTV footage.

As is routine, a referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
