The rope used during the 2020 toppling of Bristol's Edward Colston statue by anti-racism protestors is set to go under the hammer.

The item will be auctioned together with a Banksy-designed t-shirt on Monday 29th December, with a guide price ranging between £10,000 and £15,000.

The statue of Colston, a 17th-century merchant and figure associated with the transatlantic slave trade, was taken down on 7th June 2020 during Black Lives Matter demonstrations in the city. It was rolled through streets before being dumped into Bristol’s harbour.

Following the removal, the statue was retrieved and is now displayed at Bristol Museums’ M Shed gallery as part of an exhibition about the city’s history.

Four individuals charged with criminal damage over the act were acquitted in 2022 after a jury found the statue itself constituted a hate crime.
