Bristol City Council is launching a public survey on plans to introduce the city's first red route in Bedminster and Redcliffe.

Designed to keep traffic moving and improve bus journey reliability, the proposal replaces double yellow lines with red lines, enforced by cameras rather than parking officers.

The proposed route aims to tackle parking issues without impeding loading and unloading, offering limited bays along the way. It connects multiple roads, including Redcliff Street and Bedminster Bridge Roundabout.

Councillor Ed Plowden, Chair of the Transport and Connectivity Committee, said, “A red route will help keep Bristol on the move, tackling congestion and making bus journeys faster and more reliable.”

Doug Claringbold, Regional Director of First Bus in the West of England, added, “Effective enforcement of parking restrictions is an important part of making sure existing bus priority measures work as intended.”

Plans for the red route form part of the council’s City Centre project, backed by the UK Government's City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement. Since consultations in 2024, designs include the red route proposal, agreed in principle by the Transport and Connectivity Committee.

Residents and businesses are invited to participate in the survey until midnight on 30th October 2026, and further information is available on the Bristol council website.
